It
was a slugfest from the very beginning as Nebraska jumped out 2-0 as
Tyler Bates tripled in the first inning. Kansas' Andy Wachter also
tripled to lead off the bottom of the inning which saw three runs score.
Nebraska
answered with three runs off a double by Will Clemons and singles from
Jarod Jackson and Andy Ebert.
However,
Kansas erupted with 12 runs in the bottom half off of eight hits as 10
of the scores were tallied with two outs on the board. Brett Kunshek had
a double and single in the inning and scored two runs as did Zack Manns
who also added three RBIs with his double.
The
game looked like a blowout with Kansas leading 15-5, but Nebraska came
back with four runs in the third.
Each
team put up two more runs to keep Kansas' lead at six runs. Nebraska
added another two in the sixth and tried to rally to close the gap in
the seventh, but a double play ended the game.
DIAMOND
DUST: Every player in the Kansas line up scored at least one run.
Kunshek
went 3-for-3, scored two runs and had two RBIs, while Wachter was
2-for-4 and Manns was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and a three RBIs.
Bates
had two triples in the game.
Nebraska's
Jarod Jackson was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and Clemons was 3-for-5
with two runs scored and two RBIs.
